Energize Lab is excited to announce that they are launching their first companion robot, Eilik, on Kickstarter. Eilik is a desktop companion robot with emotional intelligence and will make life brighter and better for people.
The creator of Eilik, Shaw Yeung says that technology and robots are advancing faster than ever: voice assistance, pattern recognition, service robots, educational robots, industrial robots… They are designed to provide information, do repetitive work to make our life more efficient. But something crucial is missing.
Eilik is a new kind of social robot that brings up a higher level of emotional social interactions between humans and robots.
He has been dreaming of having a robot friend since he was a child. Like R2-D2 from Star Wars, Rodney from Robots, Wall-E from the film, or Baymax from Big Hero 6. With this dream in mind, they build Eilik. They hope Eilik can be your companion and bring endless fun to your desktop.
They created an extremely rich expression system for him in order to make him more lifelike. Including laughing, yelling, crying, depressed, speechless, disappointed, cute, funny, wronged, cursing, angry, and so on. In addition, Eilik can express himself vividly thanks to dynamic animations and a 25 fps OLED screen.
Their in-house animation team is hard at work behind Eilik’s real-life expression to make Eilik more vivid and fun. Every action necessitates the coordination and cooperation of screenwriters, storytellers, animation producers, and voice actors, before presenting it to Eilik by the software engineer.
Regular updates are available via Eilik’s cross-platform software so that he will be smarter, get more expressions, and download more plot content.

In order to make Eilik’s arm and the body more flexible and dexterous, they have designed a new servo motor especially. EM3 is 100% self-developed, from the gear layout, circuit board, to the control algorithm. Compared with the traditional 9g servo, the torque of EM3 can reach up to 3kg.
EM3 can efficiently protect gears and offset external force with its overload clutch protection function. Position, voltage, temperature, and current feedback are all supported by the EM3’s comprehensive control protocol, which uses a universal serial communication interface. Basic current-loop control is also available. Specific control and debugging software are also available with the EM3.
Eilik has three touch sensors over his head, belly, and bottom. He has a wide range of emotions that he will express naturally throughout the day based on the touch interactions with you. In addition, Eilik has lots of interesting things to do in his spare time, such as reading, fishing, and exercising. If putting Eiliks together, they will recognize each other, play, and build friendships just like us. Behind Eilik’s real-life expression, the teams’ in-house animation team is working hard to make Eilik more vivid and fun. Each act of Eilik requires sophisticated design and thousands of animations.
